Adriaen Lock took his oath as a notary in 1647. He was involved in the execution of the bulk of the share trade dealings of the Dutch East India Company (cf. Petram, 2011, p. 12). He was also involved in a legal case (1654) between Rembrandt and the Portuguese merchant Diego Dandrade. As a notary, he played a role in the dispute between Spinoza and Antonio Alvares.
